1. Preparation
Before you start cleaning your running shoes, remove the laces and insoles. This will ensure a thorough clean and prevent any damage.
2. Remove Loose Dirt
- Use a soft-bristled brush or old toothbrush to gently brush off loose dirt and debris from the surface and soles.
- Do this outside or over a trash can to avoid making a mess indoors.
3. Wash the Laces and Insoles
- Laces: Soak them in a small bowl of warm, soapy water. Scrub gently, then rinse and air dry.
- Insoles: Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid soaking as insoles can retain water and develop odors.
4. Clean the Shoes
- Fill a bucket with warm water and add a small amount of mild laundry detergent.
- Dip the soft brush or cloth into the soapy water and gently scrub the shoe upper, focusing on stains and dirty areas.
- Avoid soaking the shoes in water as it can weaken adhesives.
5. Rinse and Dry
- Wipe off soap residue with a clean, damp cloth.
- Stuff the shoes with paper towels or newspaper to help them retain their shape and absorb moisture.
- Air dry your shoes in a well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight or using a heater, as heat can deform the materials.
6. Reassemble and Maintain
Once completely dry, put the insoles and laces back in. Regular cleaning and proper care will keep your running shoes in great shape for longer.
